HBCU Football Polls Rank North Carolina A&T, Tuskegee No.1

HSRN Polls

Hartly, DE – North Carolina A&T moved into the top spot in the HSRN Division I Poll, while Tuskegee University maintained sole possession of first place in HSRN’s Division II/NAIA Poll following the seventh full week of HBCU football action.

Division I/FCS

Grambling State’s 35-34 overtime win over Alcorn State caused a shuffling of positions. The Tigers’ victory coupled with North Carolina A&T’s 24-14 win over Bethune Cookman, vaulted the Aggies and Tigers into higher positions while Alcorn State fell to third place and B-CU fell to fourth. South Carolina State moved up to fifth after knocking off Howard, 49-10. Prairie View A&M’s 47-42 win over Southern, pushed the Panthers into the sixth position. North Carolina Central’s comeback win over Savannah State sent the Eagles back into the Top 10 replacing Morgan State, who lost homecoming to Hampton, 20-10.

Division II/NAIA

Tuskegee held Stillman College to just 165 total yards offensively en route to a 49-20 SIAC victory and remained #1 in the HSRN Poll. Virginia Union kept pace with a key CIAA win over Chowan, 33-14 to remain #2 in the poll. Bowie State made it four-in-a-row by spoiling homecoming for Virginia State, 22-19 moving the Bulldogs into the #3 position. VSU dropped to #4 and Elizabeth City State climbed to #5 following a 28-10 homecoming win over Lincoln (PA).

BOXTOROW Polls

Both the BOXTOROW coaches and media polls saw plenty of shakeup after this past week’s games. With the dust clearing, North Carolina A&T is back on top of the polls.

In the coaches poll, the Aggies received 18 of 19 first-place votes to regain the top spot for the first time since the week one poll was released September 7. The Aggies are coming off a 24-14 victory over Bethune-Cookman who dropped from No. 3 to No. 4.

A couple of big games in the SWAC saw Grambling defeat previous No. 1 Alcorn State 35-34 on the road to tie for the biggest jump from No. 5 to now No. 2. The loss dropped the Braves to No. 3 Prairie View A&M defeated Southern on the road 47-42 and also move up three spots to No. 5. Conversely, Southern dropped three spots to No. 7.

In the media poll, Grambling received three first-place votes and sits at No. 2, 11 points behind the Aggies who received the other 15 first-place votes. Tuskegee moved back into the top five and PV got into the poll for
the first time since week 3, coming in at No. 7.
