After winning just going 2-27 last season, Grambling State, according to a CBS Sports college basketball preseason poll, was ranked the worst team in Division I for the upcoming 2015-16 season.
Here is what CBS Sports said about Grambling:
351. Grambling State: We don’t proclaim this with any glee. The Tigers were last in KenPom last year, and the program did not win a game against a D-I opponent.
Second-year head coach Shawn Walker said his team being pick last in the SWAC was “reasonable” only because no games have been won or lost by any program in October.
“Being picked last is reasonable. The greatest thing about being picked last in the preseason is that everybody basically is 0-0,” Walker said Wednesday on a preseason SWAC conference call. “At Grambling State, we’ve just got to get better. I said that over and over. We recruited young men that are here to change the culture of this being the door mat of Division I. That’s our plight. I’m excited for taking on this challenge. We’re poised for an uplifting of this program. Today, I don’t believe we’re going to finish in last.”
