NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman senior Hazel Ortiz-Rosado and Maryland Eastern Shore sophomore Alana Polk were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Co-Players of the Week. UMES’ Lucia Babic earned Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.

Ortiz-Rosado (S, 5-7, Sr., Oviedo, Fla.) paced the Lady Wildcats with victories over Binghamton and Stetson at the Florida Atlantic Invitational. She recorded four double-doubles of assists and digs and added six service aces. Ortiz-Rosado registered 55 assists and 21 digs in a five-set win over Binghamton while being named to the All-Tournament Team.

Polk (OH, 6-2, So., Houston, Texas) registered 37 kills, 12 total blocks and three digs, while hitting .413 during fourth matches at the Maroon and Gray Invitational. She recorded 10 kills and three total blocks, while hitting .421 in a four-set victory over UMass Lowell.

Babic (OH, 5-10, Fr., Sisak, Croatia) totaled 67 kills, 13 digs, six service aces and three blocks at the Maroon and Gray Invitational. She tallied 21 kills and four service aces to help UMES rally to a 3-2 win over Rider and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Other Top Performers: 

Casey Curran (NCCU) averaged 6.11 assists and 1.67 digs per set at the Gamecock Invitational.

Angie Darcus (NSU) totaled 48 kills and four service aces in three matches at the Tribe Invitational.

Marlena Guice (CSU) recorded 11 digs and nine kills in a 3-1 loss to Manhattan at the Towson Invitational.

Samantha Prescott (MSU) finished with 44 digs, including 15 in a three-set loss to Duquesne, at the Maryland Invitational.

Reanna Richardson (Hampton) totaled 24 digs, 23 kills and five service aces at the Liberty Invitational.

Chelsee Sauni (CSU) posted a double-double of 40 assists and 10 digs in a four-set loss to Manhattan.

Sydney Sumner (NCCU) recorded 10 kills, six digs and two service aces in a 3-0 loss to N.C. State.

Tatyana Thomas (Hampton) tallied 14 kills, three blocks, and two digs and was named to the Liberty Invitational All-Tournament Team.
