ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State essentially put a wrap on week one of preseason camp Monday with an two hour workout at a 9:30 a.m. morning session at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium.
“The guys worked really hard this morning in an intense special team session, “said head coach Buddy Pough. “We also worked on some more offensive and defensive type schemes.”
Pough stated, “That after reviewing the film on the first scrimmage he noticed some good and bad things that he needed to address with his team. Overall we did identify some players that can help us fill in some of the missing voids moving forward.”
SC State returned to the field in an evening practice in shells in helmets mainly for an overview of the morning session and to also work on more individual and team-style drills.
“I am not as concerned at this point after the first scrimmage,” said Pough. “We still have a long way to go but I think we are on the right track to get things done.”
The Bulldogs will have Tuesday off for the first day of classes, but will return to the field on Wednesday in a 7 a.m. morning session in full gear.
The team’s annual “Meet the Players Day”, sponsored by The STATE Club, will be held Saturday (August 22nd) at 3:30 p.m. and will be preceded by the second preseason scrimmage at 1 p.m.
