COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas Southern concluded its 2015 season with a 4-1 loss to Coastal Carolina (38-20) in the second round of the NCAA tournament Saturday afternoon.
TSU (31-18) now holds a 1-6 all-time tournament record.
The Tigers were led by shortstop Robert Garza. He tied with a game-high two hits and knocked in the Tigers lone run.
Felix Gomez received the loss after going 3 1/3 innings Larry Romero went a team-high 3 2/3 innings in the game, striking out a team-best three batters and giving up no runs and only one hit.
Down 4-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, TSU started to rally.
Ryan Lazo led off with a double down the left field line.
Christopher Scroggins then walked on four straight pitches to put two on for Garza, who took his first pitch back up the middle, scoring Lazo.
Coastal Carolina’s Andrew Beckwith was able to get the next batter to ground out, but Bobby Holmes was called to close.
He got the next two batters to ground and fly out to end the game and send the Chanticleers into the next round.
