Even though Alabama State will not represent the SWAC in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, the Eastern Division champions were named Black College National Champions.
The website Black College Genines recognized Alabama State with the honor as the best HBCU baseball team in the country.
Alabama State was ranked No. 1 in the weekly poll and remained there the entire season in winning 30 or more games for the third straight season under fourth-year head coach Mervyl Melendez.
Alabama State finished the 2015 season 31-19, including wins over then No. 17 Cal State Fullerton, The Citadel, Troy and Jacksonville State.
