Former Grambling State quarterback and head coach Doug Williams will be placed in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor, the team announced.
Williams, who led Washington to a Super Bowl XXII victory, becoming the first black QB to win the Super Bowl MVP.
Williams, 59, was drafted by Tampa Bay with the 17th overall pick in the 1978 NFL Draft.
In five seasons in Tampa Bay, Williams led the team to three postseason appearances, including the 1979 NFC Championship Game.
He threw for 12,648 yards, 73 touchdowns and 73 interceptions during his five seasons with Tampa Bay.
Williams will be added as the sixth member of the team’s Ring of Honor as part of a ceremony during the 2015 season.
