NEW ORLEANS, La. – Third seeded Grambling State upset No. 2 seed Alabama A&M 8-3 in game two of the SWAC Baseball Tournament.

The Tigers advance to play the winner of the Texas Southern, Alcorn State game at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Alabama A&M will face the loser at noon.

Grambling State was led by Roger Diaz.

The catcher went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Starter Ike O’Bear picked up his third win of the season after going 7.1 innings and striking out a game-high three batters.

Grambling State jumped out to an early lead. With the bases loaded and two outs on the board, Roger Diaz singled to right field, scoring two.

After Joshua Freeman hit his second batter of the inning to load the bases, Jaiden France singled to right center to get two more across.

The defense caught Angel Peguero trying to steal home to end the inning, but the damage was done and the Grambling opened with a 4-0 lead.

The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the inning. Ben Lott led off with a single up the middle on the full count pitch. Justen Folger then hit a one out double to right field to score Lott and put Alabama A&M on the board.

They chipped another run across in the second after Jordan Friend led off with a double down the left field line.

He motored around to score on Dustin Dhanani’s single through the right side.

Grambling’s pitching then shut the Bulldogs down for four innings while the offense tacked on two more runs.

Alabama A&M managed to get one more across in the seventh, but Grambling responded with runs in the final two innings to secure the win.
