BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State and Arkansas at Pine Bluff celebrated after Southwestern Athletic Conference games ended Saturday.
The Hornets needed only one more win to secure their second consecutive east division title, while UAPB waited for the results of Texas Southern University’s series with Prairie View A&M.
Alabama State (29-15, 17-6 SWAC) took game one of its series against Jackson State 14-5 to clinch the title and No. 1 seed in the upcoming tournament. The Hornets have won 14 of their last 18 games and close regular season conference play with a single game against JSU Sunday at 1 p.m.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (23-16, 16-6 SWAC) has at least one game remaining in its season, but the Golden Lions have already clinched a share of the west division title.
