BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State continues its streak of earning Southwestern Athletic Conference weekly baseball honors. With the selection of Tyler Howe as pitcher of the week, the Hornets have earned an honor every week this season.
Andrew Utterback from Alabama A&M picked up his second weekly award. The senior outfielder was named hitter of the week, marking the third time a Bulldog has been recognized.
Player of the Week – Andrew Utterback (Alabama A&M)
Utterback went 6-for-11 at the plate, hitting .647 with three RBI, a home run and four runs scored in the first annual Magic City Diamond Classic against Alabama State. The Bulldogs took two of the three games, winning their first series against the Hornets since 2010 and snapping ASU’s 17-series winning streak overall.
Pitcher of the Week – Tyler Howe (Alabama State)
Howe pitched 6.2 innings of no-hit ball, the longest hitless streak of his career, at Samford. He allowed no hits, walked only one, and struck out a career-high 13 batters in Tuesday’s game. The strikeout total was the most by an ASU pitcher in more than two years in a single game
