Alabama State saw two Hornets earn Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball weekly honors for the fourth time this season. Cesar Rivera and Tyler Howe were named player and co-pitcher of the week, respectively.
Alabama A&M University’s Josh Burchell shared the co-pitcher of the week honor with Howe.
Player of the Week – Cesar Rivera (Alabama State)
This is Rivera’s second time garnering the honor this season. He hit .579 with eight runs scored, four doubles, one triple, two home runs and seven RBI as the Hornets won all four games last week. Rivera had at least two hits in each game. For the week he had a .636 on-base percentage and a 1.211 slugging percentage.
Co-Pitcher of the Week – Tyler Howe (Alabama State)
This is Howe’s first weekly honor. The righty earned his first win of the season over Jacksonville State after throwing 7.1 innings and striking out six. He only allowed just one earned run as the Hornets went on to win 10-1.
Co-Pitcher of the Week – Josh Burchell (Alabama A&M)
This is Burchell’s first weekly honor this season. The junior pitched a complete game shutout in the Bulldogs 10-0 win over Alcorn State on April 10.
Burchell struck out seven and only walked three of the 30 batters he faced.
