New Orleans, La. – No. 3 singles match was the deciding factor as the No.1 seed, Southern University, claimed their sixth straight Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Sunday afternoon at the Hilton Riverside Health Club Tennis Facility.

Amanda Materre rallied back and forth with Alcorn State’s Aida Kelic. Both sets were extremely competitive and scores were close. Materre pulled out the first and second set, 7-5.

This marks the Lady Jaguars 14th SWAC women’s tennis title. Out of the past six years, SUBR has faced Alcorn State in the championship match.

No. 1 singles player, Laura Syori was named the 2015 Tournament MVP. During the entire tournament, Syori finished undefeated in singles and doubles, with a record of 4-0.

Southern’s Head Coach, Jeffrey Conyers, received the SWAC Coach of the Year honors.

Alcorn State University Lady Braves will receive the AQ and advance to the NCAA Tournament which will take place May 14-25.
