For the third consecutive week, Alabama State University claimed a Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball weekly honor. Freshman Sebastian Rivera was named co-player of the week along with Alabama A&M University’s Andrew Utterback.
Senior Santos Saldivar of Southern University earned pitcher of the week honors.
Co-Player of the Week – Sebastian Rivera (Alabama State)
Rivera hit .538, including a double with five runs and four RBI. He had at least one hit in all four games last week, earning his first career stats in a three-game sweep of Savannah State. Rivera had a career-high three runs scored and three hits in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader. He finished the week with a .600 on-base percentage and a .615 slugging percentage.
Co-Player of the Week – Andrew Utterback (Alabama A&M)
Utterback hit for the cycle in the Bulldogs 19-13 win over Mississippi Valley State University Friday. The senior outfielder then had three more doubles in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep at MVSU. He finished the weekend 8-for-14.
Pitcher of the Week – Santos Saldivar (Southern)
Saldivar threw his second straight complete game in the Jaguars 8-3 win over division rival Prairie View A&M University. He dominated the Panthers batters, collecting 12 strikeouts and yielding only one earned run.
