HOUSTON — Tre Lynch scored 16 points and Southern advanced past Alabama A&M 64-60 in the Southwestern Conference tournament quarterfinals.
Southern (17-16) will face second-seeded Alabama State (19-9) on Friday in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m.
Adrian Rodgers and Trelun Banks scored 14 points apiece for the Jaguars.
AAMU led by two at the half, but Southern took the lead early in the second half and led by as many as 10 twice.
But the Bulldogs cut it to three with 1:13 left on Ladarius Tabb’s three pointer.
Lynch responded with a jumper at the other end for the Jaguars and but Rakiya Battle missed a three pointer for the Bulldogs.
Rogers would go on to sink four consecutive free throws to seal the win for Southern.
Alabama A&M (9-20) was led by Battle and Nicholas West with 15 points apiece. Tabb, the SWAC’s leading scorer and rebounder was held to 14 and five boards.
The Bulldogs were only 4 of 17 on 3-point attempts.
