Alcorn State outmatched by North Texas in NIT first round matchup

Alcorn State received automatic NIT bid over Grambing State. Here’s why

HOUSTON, Texas – Prairie View defeated Alcorn State 66-59 Thursday night at the Toyota Center.

Prairie View A&M led the entire first half.

For the first eight minutes in the game, they only allowed ALCN seven points, 20-7.

The half ended, 32-19 with PVAMU leading the way.

The second half started off with high energy and was fast paced. Alcorn State got their offense going but couldn’t stop Player of the Year, Jeanette Jackson from getting to the basket or All-SWAC first team, Alexus Parker.

With a little under two minutes left in the game, Alcorn State was only down by four points.

There was a lot of aggressive play the last few minutes of the game but Prairie View managed to come out victorious.

Jackson led the way for the Lady Panthers scoring a game-best 22 points. Alexus Parker tallied 18 points. Shamiya Brooks added eight points and brought down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Jasmine Cunningham scored 14 points and chipped in four rebounds to lead the Lady Braves. Angelic Wilson-Reid and Norianna Haynes both pitched in 13 points apiece and Olivia Brown added 12.
