The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Prairie View’s Shamiya Brooks as the women’s basketball player of the week for her outstanding performance in competition between January 17-19.
Brooks averaged a double-double over the weekend to help lead the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers to victories over Jackson State and Grambling State. She averaged 11.5 points and 13.5 rebounds during Prairie View A&M’s two victories, and shot 58 percent (11 of 19) from the floor while playing only 22 minutes per contest.
In Saturday’s 82-65 triumph over Jackson State, Brooks blocked five shots in addition to scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. In Monday’s 85-57 win over Grambling State, Brooks scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and pulled in a career-high 17 rebounds. She also blocked three Grambling State shot attempts, giving her eight for the week.
