Delaware State’s Tierra Hawkins Named MEAC Women’s Player Of The Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Tierra Hawkins of Delaware State was chosen as MEAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Norfolk State’s Kayla Roberts earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Kailyn Williams of Bethune-Cookman was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Hawkins (F, 6-2, Sr., Clinton, Md.) averaged a double-double of 19.7 points and 12.3 rebounds against Howard, Wilmington (Del.) and South Carolina State. She shot 81-percent (13-of-16) from the field to finish with 28 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks in a 74-44 non-conference win over Wilmington (Del.).

Roberts (F, 6-1, Fr., Miami Gardens, Fla.) totaled 24 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks and two steals in conference wins over Bethune-Cookman and North Carolina Central. She scored 18 points, including 6-of-8 from the free-throw line, along with five rebounds in an 82-58 victory against North Carolina Central.

Williams (C, 6-5, r-So. New Orleans, La.) averaged 16.0 rebounds and 6.5 blocks in a pair of games against Norfolk State and Coppin State. She recorded 17 rebounds and a career-high 10 blocks against Norfolk State. Offensively, Williams totaled 21 points, with a week high of 12, in a 61-58 win over Coppin State.

Other Top Performances

Mikah Aldridge (DSU) registered a season-high 18 points, three rebounds and three assists against South Carolina State.

Tracey Carrington (MSU) tallied 24 points, five rebounds and three steals in a 72-62 win against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Rae Corbo (NSU) averaged 29.0 points 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists against Bethune-Cookman and North Carolina Central.

Racquel Davis (NCCU) recorded 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals in a loss to Savannah State.

Tiyonda Davis (SSU) finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks against North Carolina Central.

Braennan Farrar (MSU) registered 19 points and seven boards in a 57-50 victory over Florida A&M.

Taryana Kelly (UMES) recorded 19 boards, including 13 offensive, along with nine points in a 61-50 win over Savannah State.

Jessica Long (UMES) totaled 34 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and four steals against Morgan State and Savannah State.

Kierona Morton (NCCU) grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds, along with six points, in a loss to Norfolk State.

Jasmine Norman (SSU) finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals in games against North Carolina Central and Maryland Eastern Shore.

Nia Roberts (NSU) recorded 13 rebounds, six points and two blocks in an 82-58 win over North Carolina Central.

Taneka Rubin (FAMU) averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals against Hampton and Morgan State.

Jordon Swails (CSU) recorded her first career double-double, scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds, against Bethune-Cookman.

Malia Tate-DeFreitas (HAM) registered 26 points, 11 rebounds and two assists in a 54-48 victory over North Carolina A&T State.

Zuri White (MSU) grabbed 12 rebounds, including eight defensively, in a 72-62 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Emily Williams (B-CU) recorded 11 points, including three 3-pointers, in a 61-58 victory over Coppin State.

Kourtney Williams (SCSU) shot 58-percent (18-of-31) from the field and totaled 42 points against North Carolina A&T State and Delaware State.
