Edward Waters’ Maddox Named GCAC Player Of The Week

New Orleans, La. – Edward Waters College guard Oceaan Maddox has been named the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 28, 2014-January 3, 2015.  This is his first GCAC Player of the Week honor this season.

A 6-4 sophomore from Daytona Beach, Fla., Maddox helped lead the Tigers to a 2-1 week.  In those three contests he averaged 17.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2 steals including double-doubles against No. 17 Philander Smith and St. Thomas (Fla.).  He set career highs in points in consecutive games with 22 against St. Thomas and 23 against Philander Smith as well as career highs with 11 rebounds in those games.  He shot just over 54 percent from the field during the week.

Aquill Baynard picked up his conference-leading fifth double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds as the 17th-ranked Panthers defeated Edward Waters in their GCAC opener…Jarrian Jenkins had 15 points on 7-8 shooting for Dillard in their loss to Talladega…Xavier freshman Troy Salvant came off the bench to score 14 points for the Gold Rush in their 65-70 loss to No. 9 Concordia (Calif.)…Shondel Stewart scored had 21 points and 7 rebounds in just 27 minutes as No. 6 Talladega routed Dillard 72-53 in the GCAC opener for both teams.
