Trailing 27-26 at the 3:24 mark, the Golden Rams made a run of their own. A steal and layup by Larry Bullock and a fast-break dunk by Earl Farnum ignited a 10-7 spurt by ASU. Albany State took a 37-33 edge into halftime.
In the second half, the two teams continued to swap the lead and make ties. With the score tied at 58, Point used a 7-0 run to take a 65-58 lead with 8:32 left in regulation. ASU would answer with a 12-5 run to tie the game at 70 at the 4:26 mark.
Demetri Wheeler‘s layup with 3:10 left in the game helped Albany State regain the lead. Farnum made one of two free throws with 2:16 left for a 73-70 lead. The Sky Hawks scored a basket to cut the lead to one, but Odom made a three-pointer to push the Golden Rams advantage to four, 76-72, with 1:26 remaining.
The Sky Hawks made two free throws to cut the lead to 76-74 with 35 seconds left. Point forced the Golden Rams into a turnover to take possession again. However, Wheeler would steal a Sky Hawk pass and was fouled 12 seconds. He missed the free throw, but Point was unable to get off a quality shot to tie the game.
Farnum finished with 17 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Golden Rams. Elijah Jordan recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Wheeler added with 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Odom also had four assists and led the team with four steals.
The Golden Rams shot 30 of 69 (43.5) from the field, 11 of 28 (39.3) from three-point range, and five of 12 (41.7) from the free throw line. The team recorded 23 assists and 12 steals, and it also forced the Sky Hawks to commit 20 turnovers.
