The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Prairie View’s Jeanette Jackson as the women’s basketball player of the week for the second time this year for her exceptional performance in competition this past week and leading her team to their first two victories of the 2014-15 season.
Jackson averaged 25 points per game this past week, leading the Lady Panthers to their first two victories of the year. She shot 41 percent from the floor (16 of 39) during Prairie View A&M’s 2-0 week, which included a sizzling 8-of-19 (42 percent) from behind the three-point arc.
On Sunday, Jackson started and was only on the bench for 10 seconds of total game time as she led Prairie View A&M’s first-ever victory over the University of Houston.
The 61-56 triumph ended a 15-game losing streak to Houston dating back to the 1975-76 season. Against the Cougars, Jackson recorded a season high of 28 points and added seven rebounds. She also handed out four assists while shooting 8-of-22 from the field, including 4-of-10 from the three-point range.
Just three days prior, Jackson led the Lady Panthers to their first win of the season, a 90-38 victory over Schreiner University (Texas) in Prairie View A&M’s home opener. She recorded 22 points, handed out four assists and knocked down four out of nine three pointers.
