The Southwestern Athletic Conference recognizes Alabama State’s Jamel Waters (Birmingham, Ala./Ramsey HS) as the men’s basketball player of the week for his exceptional performance in competition this past weekend.
Waters, a junior guard, had a strong showing in three games the Hornets played during a tournament hosted in Utah. He recorded 19-points against the nationally-ranked UTES. Waters averaged 16.0 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 43 percent from beyond the three point line. He also averaged over five assists per game and almost four rebounds per outing. His numbers from the three day tournament includes: FG 17-38, shooting 44.7 percent, 3FG 6-14, shooting 42.9 percent and he finished shooting 66.7 from the charity stripe, knocking down 8-12. He also completed the tournament with a total of 16 assists, three steals, 48 points and 11 rebounds.
