To open the first half, the Braves and Trojans traded baskets. Troy had a hard time putting the ball away and tallied two turnovers in the first four minutes. The sloppy play allowed the Braves to tally five points off the turnovers, as they led the Trojans, 8-5, while shooting 50 percent from the field.
Coming out of the half, Alcorn state was hot from the field as they went on a 6-0 run to cut Troy’s lead to nine with 11:30 remaining in the contest. Despite their greatest effort, the Braves were unable to chip away at the Trojans lead after that, as the Trojans had an answer for each basket.
On the game, Troy shot 47.4 percent from the floor. The Trojans had double the Braves’ second chance points with 18. In the paint, Troy outscored Alcorn State 36-26.
Pat Forsythe, Reggie McAdams, and Nyles Evans each added 11 points for the Zips, who shot only 40 percent from the field but got to the free throw line 29 more times than the Golden Lions and won the rebounding battle 42-24.
Jovaughn Love scored a game high 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting to lead Pine Bluff. Marcel Mosely added 20 for the Golden Lions, including a near perfect 4-of-5 from three point range.
Pine Bluff took a 32-31 lead into the locker room at halftime, and held a five point lead with just under 15 minutes to play. However a 23-0 Akron run over the next five minutes took Pine Bluff out of the game.
