BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Prairie View A&M University will face Texas Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
The unveiling of 64 teams, which will compete for the 33rd NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, was announced this afternoon by the Division I Women’s Soccer Committee.
Under their current affiliate membership agreement with the SWAC in their first year, Howard University does not receive the league’s Automatic Qualifier, thus Prairie View, the tournament’s runner-up, advances to the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Panthers (11-8-1) entered the 2014 women’s soccer tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Nationally ranked No. 10 Texas Tech won the BIG 12 women’ soccer championship, finishing with an overall record of 14-3-2. They were picked as a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. This will be Texas Tech’s third-straight season hosting an opening round match of the tournament.
The two teams faced each other for the first time on September 8, 2006. The Red Raiders defeated the Lady Panthers 10-0 and have a series record of 1-0-0.
The 33rd annual NCAA Women’s College Cup will be played December 5 and December 7 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida, with Florida Atlantic University and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission serving as co-hosts.
