NORFOLK, Va. – Morgan State’s Herb Walker was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. MSU teammate Antonio Jefferson was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Hampton’s Jerrell Antoine earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week. Morgan State’s Clarence Swain and South Carolina State’s Antonio Hamilton were named Offensive Lineman and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.
Walker (RB, 5-8, 185, So., Cleveland, Ohio) recorded four touchdowns in the Bears’ 38-35 win over Hampton. The sophomore finished with 67 yards on the ground with three touchdowns. He also caught seven passes for a career-high 109 yards, including a screen pass that he raced 17-yards into the end zone for the winning score.
Jefferson (S, 6-1, 180, So., Suffolk, Va.) collected 13 tackles, 11 solo, with one for a loss of one yard in the win over the Pirates. He recovered a fumble and blocked the Pirates’ extra point attempt in the third quarter.
Antoine (QB, 6-1, 160, Fr., Orlando, Fla.) threw for a career-high 164 yards with two touchdowns in his first collegiate home start. He also ran for 50 yards and a touchdown against Morgan State.
Swain (OL, 6-2, 330, Sr., Fayetteville, Ga.) led the Bears in a late rally to beat Hampton 38-35. He played without any penalties or missed assignments and did not surrender a single sack. He totaled four pancake blocks and graded out at 93-percent of his assignments as he aided the Bears amass 399 yards of total offense to spoil the Pirates homecoming.
Hamilton (DB, 6-0, 185, r-Jr., Johnson, S.C.) returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ victory over Savannah State. It was the second straight week that Hamilton has returned a punt for a touchdown in a MEAC game. He finished the game with three punts returns for 76 yards.
