HUNTSVILLE – Southern University’s Malcolm Crockett scored with just 51 seconds in the game for the go-ahead touchdown in a 35-34 win over Alabama A&M in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Alabama A&M took a 34-14 lead with 6:08 left in the third quarter when Jonathan Dorsey scored on a 44-yard pass from Jaymason Lee for the Bulldogs.
It was the third straight score for the Bulldogs who turned a 17-14 lead into the 34-14 advantage. Brandon Eldemire scored on a 2-yard-run with 8:18 left in the first half.
Then Cesar Ramon-Diaz kicked a 40-yard field goal just 1:19 into the third quarter for a 27-14 lead.
After Dorsey’s score, it was all Southern University as they scored the next three touchdowns for the win.
For the Bulldogs, Lee was having his best game of the season until he left in the fourth quarter with an injury. He was 21-of-34 passing for 292 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Harvey Harris led the A&M ground attack with 93 yards on 17 carries and Montaurius Smith pulled down eight passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.
The Bulldogs had 503 yards in total offense on 98 plays; the Jaguars had 432 yards on 76 plays.
Southern quarterback Austin Howard was 17 of 41 passing for 265 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Lenard Tillery, the team’s leading rusher, had 93 yards on 16 carries Saturday and Willie Quinn had 132 yards on 7 catches.
