It is never too late to forecast postseason play apparently.
According to The Sports Network, several HBCU programs might be setting themselves up for the playoffs if the season ended today.
Illinois State/Montana State winner at No. 1 seed North Dakota State
Southern Illinois/Eastern Kentucky winner at No. 8 seed McNeese State
Bethune-Cookman/Chattanooga winner at No. 5 seed Jacksonville State
Fordham/Liberty winner at No. 4 seed New Hampshire
Tennessee State/Montana winner at No. 6 seed Southeastern Louisiana
Sacred Heart/Northern Iowa winner at No. 3 seed Villanova
Richmond/North Carolina A&T winner at No. 7 seed Coastal Carolina
Jacksonville/South Dakota State winner at No. 2 seed Eastern Washington
On the at-large bubble: Sacramento State, Delaware, William & Mary and Youngstown State.
Let’s see how this all shapes up come November and December, as the projections will surely look vastly different.
Sigh. Freaking SWAC. No one can tell me Alcorn couldn’t run with at least half these teams. Of course, they’d set them up with the worst possible draw, but still. That’s a bad-ass football team right now.
Problem is Jay, the SWAC’s regular season still continues when the FCS playoffs begins. Southern-Grambling is on Thanksgiving weekend and the SWAC title game is the week after. SWAC and the Ivy League are the only FCS leagues that don’t let their squads participate in the FCS playoffs.
