Leading up to this week’s annual Southwestern Athletic Conference Media Day, TSPN Sports will forecast our preseason predictions for the upcoming 2014 season.
Offensive Player of The Year – Jerry Lovelocke – QB – Prairie View
To say Jerry Lovelocke had a breakout season in 2013 would be an understatement. The senior signal-caller threw for 2,838 yards, 23 touchdowns and passed for 236 yards per game leading Prairie View to the No. 1 offensive in the SWAC.
He rushed for 284 yards and nine touchdowns averaging 260 yards in total offense in. To cap the last season, he was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week twice.
That production figures to continue for Lovelocke with another year under his belt in offensive coordinator Mark Orlando’s high-powered scheme.
Lovelocke, the preseason Texas Small College Player of the Year, will have high individual and team expectations, as Prairie View is expected to contend for SWAC Western Division championship and conference crown after finishing second to Southern a season ago.
