The Texas Southern Tigers punched a ticket to the Big Dance with a 78-73 win over Prairie View to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference basketball tournament at the Toyota Center in Houston.
Aaric Murray supplied a double-double performance scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The Tigers (19-14) shot 47.8 percent (22-for-46) from the field for the game with 3 other Tigers scoring in double figures. Madarious Gibbs had 15 points, Jose Rodriguez had 13 points and D’Angleo Scott tallied 10 points.
Prairie View’s Montrael Scott shot 7-of-10 from the field to lead the Panthers in scoring with 19 points. Two other players scored in double figures for the Panthers with Louis Munks and Tre Hegood tallying 16 and 11 points respectfully.
Murray, who entered the contest averaging 17 points per game, was named tournament MVP. The Panthers finish their season with an overall record of 11-24.
