Longtime standout Indianapolis Colts defensive end and former Alabama A&M product Robert Mathis continues to acquire accolades.
“He’s everything you are looking for in a football player,” said Colts head coach Chuck Pagano about Mathis. “He loves the game of football. He plays with great passion and energy. (Pundits) didn’t think we were going to do much but it was guys like Robert that jumped in and took a leap of faith.”
Mathis finished the 2013 season with 19.5 sacks, 59 tackles and eight forced fumbles. Those gaudy stats helped earned him a trip to his sixth Pro Bowl and a place on the NFL All-Pro team.
“First off, I’m thankful for God Almighty. Without him, nothing is possible,” Mathis said. “Second, my mom. She’s sick but she’s here in my heart. My wife for her support, 100 percent.”
