Jackson State and Texas Southern were desperate for a win.

In a contest that wasn’t decided until the final seconds, Jackson State was able to surge late in the second half to grab a huge 75-73 win at Texas Southern Monday night.

Jackson State’s Julysses Nobles scored 21 points and made two free throws with just five seconds left in the game to secure the victory.

With the win, Jackson State improved to 9-16 overall and 5-8 in conference play. JSU currently sits in eighth place in the SWAC standings.

Texas Southern, who still had an outside shot at legitimately competing for at least second-place behind first-place Southern, saw those hopes take a dramatic blow with the loss.

D’Aris Scarver led Texas Southern (6-6, 10-14) with 15 points, and Aaric Murray added 14 points and 11 rebounds.
