USAF Academy, Colorado – The Jackson State men’s basketball team picked up its first win of the Wayne Brent era as the Tigers beat Air Force 84-82 at Clune Arena. Brent started three freshmen from JPS High Schools (Marcus Love, Javeres Brent and Treshawn Bolden) en route to the victory.
The Tigers (1-2) held on to beat a late charge from Air Force. JSU led 33-24 at halftime, but was outscored 58-51 in the second half. Despite being outscored in the final period of regulation, JSU shot a season high 65.2% from the field and 60% from three-point range.
Five Tigers scored in double figures. Javeres Brent led JSU with 17 points, four rebounds and two assists. Julysses Nobles followed with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Treshawn Bolden added 14 points and four rebounds and BJ West scored 13 points and grabbed a team high nine rebounds. Derrell Taylor chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.
JSU out-rebounded Air Force 35-29 and recorded eight blocked shots. West finished with a game high six blocks. For the game JSU shot 51.1% from the floor while Air Force made 47.4% of its field goal attempts.
Tre Coggins led AF with 35 points.
JSU returns to action Saturday, Nov. 16 at 10 am when the Tigers take on the University of Colorado.
