SWACLogoBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has selected Lee Doss (Southern), Daerius Washington (Alabama State), Jeremiah Young (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), and Travis Jatzlau (Prairie View A&M) as its SWAC Football Players of the Week for September 23.

Doss was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week, Washington becomes the third consecutive player from ASU to earn defensive honors, Young landed newcomer recognition and Jatzlau was handed this week’s specialist award.

Lee Doss
Southern
WR • R-SR • 6-2 • 180 • New Orleans, La.
Doss hauled in 10 catches for 164 yards and one touchdown in the Jaguars’ 17-7 win at Mississippi Valley State. He accounted for more than half of SU’s total offense. He scored on a 65-yard strike from Dray Joseph and also had a 45-yard reception to set up the Jaguars’ first offensive touchdown of the game.

Daerius Washington
Alabama State
LB • SO • 6-0 • 205 • Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Washington tallied eight tackles, including 0.5 tackle-for-a-loss and returned an interception 19 yards for a touchdown. His score’ late in the first half gave the Hornets a 28-7 lead. He helped lead a defense that held Grambling State to 12 rushing yards.

Jeremiah Young
Arkansas-Pine Bluff
RB • FR • 6-1 • 215 • Pine Bluff, Ark.
In Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s 21-16 loss to Alcorn State, Young rushed for 139 yards on 21 carries to post a 6.6 avearge. He scored a 46-yard touchdown run recording a score each of the Golden Lions games on the season. He accounted for 63 percent of UAPB’s 219 yards on the ground and 30 percent of the team’s 452 total yardage.

Travis Jatzlau
Prairie View A&M
P • JR • 5-8 • 170 • Jersey Village, Texas
Jatzlau averaged 43.6. yards per punt with a long of 53 in Prairie View A&M’s 28-26 come from behind victory over Alabama A&M. He placed three punts inside the 20-yard line including a 41-yarder to the AAMU 11 with less than a minute left in the game.
