SWAC regular season champion Alcorn State to play in NIT

Jay HopsonEntering his second season on the “Reservation”, Coach Jay Hopson has made a splash with one of the best recruiting classes Alcorn State has seen in quite some time.

Preaching one game at a time and promoting a motto of true accountability, Hopson has started to awaken a sleeping disgruntled fan base.

During a recent stop on his Tomorrow Club State Tour, Hopson challenged a group of Alcornites and supporters to truly commit to building a strong foundation the right way.

Coming off a surprising 4-7 overall record while only having weeks to assemble a coaching staff and prepare a team; Hopson once again has been giving the task of restoring a once proud program.

This task will not be easy having one of the weakest athletic budgets combined with the many pressures associated with a win first attitude within the conference.

When asked what will it take to get Alcorn back to the top, Hopson always gives the same reply, “It starts with support and honesty”.

That support starts with alumni and supporter contributions and the student athlete’s ability to trust in a proud tradition while also gaining a top tier educational foundation.

“Alcorn is about to embark on a ground breaking athletic transformation”, according to Marcus Ward, ASU’s VP for Institutional Advancement.

It remains to be seen if the new direction of Alcorn athletics will pay off, but the buzz around this program is very positive and there is no denying that the collective mentality is One Vision, One Goal, One  ALCORN.
