Are you ready for some football? Then, you don’t want to miss Coach Rick Comegy’s women’s football clinic this Saturday.
The clinic at Veterans Memorial Stadium will feature a meet-and-greet with Comegy, line coaches and JSU football players, along with tutorials about football lingo, safety and field positions. The cost is $25.
“After the informational sessions, we’ll let the women get on the field and practice what they’ve learned,” said Comegy. “This is actually a family event. Although it’s a women’s clinic, we’re encouraging women to bring their husbands and friends.”
The list of attendees grows daily, with some participants crossing state lines.
Carma Rhodes-Gates said she’ll drive down from Cordova, Tenn., to attend the one-day camp. Her husband is a JSU alumnus and her son, Kevin Gates, is a current student majoring in accounting.
“I love Jackson State football. There are some things I want to learn about the sport. I just know the basics,” said Rhodes-Gates. “I also feel it will strengthen a bond between me and my husband, who is also a football fan, because I will have a bit more knowledge about the sport.”
Valorie Albright expects the camp to be “exciting” and “fun.” She’s a long-time Jackson State football fan. Albright attends nearly all of the team’s games. Though she’s never played a team sport, she feels she’s ready for Saturday’s field practice.
“I work out five or six times a week,” said Albright. “This clinic is going to allow me to get closer to the game.”
