— Running back Kaderius Lacey broke the Alabama A&M record for career rushing yards on last Saturday. Lacey rushed for 205 yards against Alcorn State to bring his career total to 2,579 surpassing Ulysses Banks who previously held the record with 2,559 yards
— Saturday was the last game at Crampton Bowl for Alabama State. ASU will play the remainder of its home games at Alabama State University Football Stadium. The Hornets will games on campus for the first time in 40 years. The last time ASU played a game on campus was 1972 in the facility formerlycalled Hornets Stadium
— Alabama State place kicker Bobby Wenzig earned the FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week, announced by the Sports Network. Wenzig (JR, K/P,6-2/185, San Diego, Ca.) averaged a career-best 52 yards on six punts. He posted three of 50 yards or more including a long of 67. He pinpointed three inside the 20 and ranks No. 2 in the FCS averaging 47 yards per punt through seven games
— This weekend, three of the four games on the schedule will be homecoming celebrations. Grambling State, Jackson State and Prairie View A&M will host homecoming games on Saturday. Currently on the season, the only team to win during homecoming was Southern, defeating Texas Southern 34-7 last week
— Alabama A&M quarterback Deaunte Mason saw his streak of passes without an interception snapped on his fi rst attempt on Saturday against Alcorn State. Going into the game, Mason had 141 passes without an interception. His fi rst pass of the game was picked off and returned for an Alcorn State touchdown
— Six teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference are currrently ranked in the top 50 in several categories in the FCS ranks. In total defense, Mississippi Valley State (4th – 275 YPG), Alabama A&M (6th – 288 YPG), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (23rd – 321.83 YPG), and Southern (24th – 322.17 YPG) rank among the top 25 in the nation. Jackson State ranks 36th (408.71 YPG) in total offense. In scoring defense, Alabama A&M (6th – 13.86 PPG), Alabama State (22nd – 19.71 PPG) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (23rd – 19.83 PPG) lead the SWAC in the category.
