Co-Offensive Player of the Week:
Clarissa Moore, OH, Sr., 5’9, Houston, Texas – Alabama A&M
Moore recorded 10 or more kills in three games to help AAMU go 1-3 on the week. In the win against in-town Alabama-Huntsville, she delivered 11 kills and posted an attack percentage of .409. In the Tiger Invitational in Memphis, Tenn., she responded with back-to-back double-doubles. She opened the tourney with a 14 kills and 12 digs against Louisiana-Lafayette followed by 17 kills and 11 digs versus Illinois-Chicago. Against host Memphis she registered a .417 attack percentage posting six kills and six digs. She finshed the week with 48 kills and 33 digs averaging 14 kills and 8.3 digs.

Brooke Beasley, S, So., 6’0, Winfield, Ala. – Alabama State
Beasley totaled 113 assists (22.6 avg) posting 20 or more in three games last week. The Hornets played in five games while hosting the ASU Invitational. She opened the week with 19 against Chatttanooga followed by 18 versus Troy. She posted 24 assists versus Maryland-Eastern Shore and added 28 against Tennessee Martin. To conclude the week she finished with a double-double, 24 assists and 10 digs against North Texas.

Defensive Player of the Week
Luiza Griz, L, 5’7, Recife, Brazil – Alabama State
Griz posted 10 or more digs on last week helping the Lady Hornets host the ASU Invitational. She registered 13 against Chattanooga before posting the same against Troy. She then tallied 11 in the match between Maryland Eastern-Shore and 18 against Tennessee Martin. She then closed the week with five digs to close out the tourney against North Texas.

Newcomer of the Week
Kelsey Espinosa, S, 5’8, Pflugerville, Texas – Prairie View A&M
Prairie View A&M was led by the play of setter Kelsey Espinosa during the week. Espinosa was named to the Molten Invitational All-Tournament team. She finished the tournament with 61 assists including 16 against TCU before dishing out 17 against No. 3 ranked USC. For the week, she totaled 78 assists in for four games including 28 against Lehigh and 17 against North Texas.

Soccer

Yosselyn Aguilar (Prairie View), Stephanie Howard (Alabama State) and Kylee Hathaway (Alabama State) are the SWAC soccer Players of the Week for Week 5.

Aguilar, a 5-6 senior from Houston, Texas, captured Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring two goals, including the game-winner in a 3-2 victory of Nicholls State over the weekend.

Howard claimed the Defender of the Week. The junior midfielder from Wetumpka was instrumental in the Lady Hornets win over Lipscomb. She also contributed on offense with an assist.

Hathaway was the top goalkeeper for the week. The Pomona, Ca. native had seven saves and picked up the shutout in Alabama State’s 1-0 win against Lipscomb.
