southern logo1BATON ROUGE – Southern University athletics is launching its #StandUnited social media campaign for the 2012 season which includes incentives to persuade social media fans to become more involved through Twitter and Facebook.

#StandUnited represents the department’s overall commitment to return SU athletics to its days of glory by encouraging our most dedicated fan base to “Stand United” and share news regarding Southern athletics via social media.

The pound symbol, or hash tag in Twitter terminology, helps Jaguar fans connect to all Southern athletics’ news and updates on the vastly popular social media site.

As a part of the #StandUnited social media contest, fans are required to “Like” the Southern Facebook page and “Follow” @SouthernUsports on Twitter by Aug. 1 to enter for a chance to win a $100 prize pack courtesy of GoJagsGear.com. One grand prize winner will receive 2 season books for the 2012 football season.

Southern will randomly select five social media fans to determine the winner of the $100 GoJagsGear.com prize pack and grand prize winner. Fans are also encouraged to share messages through Facebook and “retweet” or repost SU news on Twitter using the hash tag #StandUnited.

Southern is also aiming to garner the most fans on Facebook and Twitter in the conference.  The #StandUnited campaign is gear to increase the departments “Likes” on Facebook to 4,000 and Twitter followers to 1000 by the Aug. 1 contest deadline.
