Mississippi Valley State has narrowed down the list of candidates for its vacant head men’s basketball coach position.
Interim head coach Chico Potts, Arkansas Pine-Bluff head coach George Ivory and Harvey Wardell, an assistant coach at Tougaloo College, are the three finalists for the position.
MVSU conducted phone interviews with the candidates Thursday and will release the name of the new head coach early next week.
“We are trying to get the best fit for Valley,” said MVSU interim director of athletics Donald Sims. “The new coach must continue to uphold our basketball program to the highest standards both on and off the court.”
The position came open last month when Sean Woods accepted the same position at Morehead State.
MVSU is coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history. The Delta Devils finished the season 21-13 and once held the nation’s second-longest win streak (17 games). Valley won the SWAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in school history.
