“We understood what type of player he was at Prairie View and he showed up,” said Garrett. “He came up to Dallas day and he continued to impress us and we really jumped at the opportunity to sign him as a college free agent after the draft. He has had a good start to this mini-camp.”
Hamilton is playing linebacker for the Cowboys and has had to make the transition from playing with his hand down to playing up. Garrett said he’s adjusting nicely to the change of position.
“You can see in the workouts we’ve had that he does have some athletic ability. He chases the ball well, he has some natural pass rush moves, and he seems to have some capability to drop in coverage as well.”
Hamilton, who had an FCS leading 22.5 sacks in 2011, signed a free-agent deal with the Cowboys after not being selected in the NFL Draft.
