NEW ORLEANS — The 2011-12 women’s basketball season came to a close Thursday for the Mississippi Valley State women’s basketball team.
The Devilettes (18-14) fell 68-61 at Tulane in the first round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
MVSU, which won the regular season SWAC title for the second time in school history, ends the season with 18 wins — the most under 11-year coach Nate Kilbert.
In her final game of her MVSU career, De’Kisha Fondon paced the Devilettes with 15 points, which all came in the first half. The Water Valley native also had four steals. Ka’Neisha Smith, who also played in her final game, and Alia Frank chipped in 12 points apiece.
After trailing 17-5 in the first half, the Devilettes fought their way back and took a 38-35 lead at halftime. But, the Green Wave outscored Valley 33-23 in the second half.
Danielle Blagg led Tulane with 18 points while Olivia Grayson put up 13.
