SWAC Announces 2012 All-SWAC Women’s Basketball Teams

The SWAC has announced the 2012 SWAC All-Conference teams, as voted on by league coaches.

Highlighting the All-SWAC team is Alabama A&M guard Whiquitta Tobar who has been named Player of the Year. Tobar led the SWAC in scoring averaging 19.8 points per game. She was also in the top 10 in rebounding, assists and steals. The 3-time SWAC Player of the Week is seventh in rebounds with 6.1, sixth in assists with 2.8 per game and ninth in steals with 1.8 per game.

Joining Tobar in the superlative club is Defensive Player of the Year Quentori Alford (Alabama State), Freshman of the Year Kendra Coleman, and Newcomer of the Year Kiara Etienne (Prairie View A&M). The Coach of the Year is Nate Kilbert of Mississippi Valley State.

Five players from five different teams were named to the All-SWAC First Team. Along with Tobar and Alford, Kiara Ruffin of Alcorn State, Tiffany Kellum of Jackson State and Latia Williams of Prairie View A&M were named to the first team.

Three players from Mississippi Valley State, Ka’Neisha Smith, Alia Frank and Brittany Lakes, joined Etienne and Chigozianyi Okumabua of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on the second team.

Kendra Coleman led a trio of players, Laneisha Stephens and Jamie Floyd from Southern, on the third team. Rachel Jones of Jackson State and Khristina Clemons rounded out the third team.

FIRST TEAM
Guard – Whiquitta Tobar (AAMU) and Kiara Ruffin (ALCN)
Forward – Tiffany Kellum (JKST) and Latia Williams (PVAM)
Center – Quentori Alford (ALST)

SECOND TEAM
Guard – Ka’Neisha Smith (MVSU) and Kiara Etienne (PVAM)
Forward – Alia Frank (MVSU) and Chigozianyi Okumabua (UAPB)
Center – Brittney Lakes (MVSU)

THIRD TEAM
Guard – Kendra Coleman (SUBR) and Rachel Jones (JKST)
Forward – Laneisha Stephens (SUBR) and Khristina Clemons (MVSU)
Center – Jamie Floyd (SUBR)

PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Whiquitta Tobar (AAMU)
DEFENSIVE POY – Quentori Alford (ALST)
FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR – Kendra Coleman (SUBR)
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR – Kiara Etienne (PVAM)
COACH OF THE YEAR – Nate Kilbert (MVSU)
