mvsu logoITTA BENA — The Mississippi Valley State University Athletics Department has released its 2012 football schedule. The 11-game slate includes five exciting home showdowns, with the first coming against Concordia College on Sept. 1.

“Having a non-conference game (as the season-opener),” said MVSU head coach Karl Morgan, “allows you the chance to work out some kinks and not cost you in conference play.”

Following the season-opener, the Delta Devils don’t return to Rice-Totten Stadium until Oct. 6. Valley will travel to Alabama State (Sept. 8), Southern (Sept. 15) and Northwestern State (Sept. 15) before taking a week off on Sept. 29.

“We’re going to do all we can,” Morgan said, “to make sure there’s some interest, some buzz going when we return home for the second home game.”

MVSU will celebrate homecoming on Oct. 6 when they face Alabama A&M, who played in last year’s SWAC title game. Valley will remain at home on Oct. 13 when they host SWAC champion Grambling State.

The Delta Devils will stay on the road for the rest of October, visiting Jackson State (Oct. 20) and University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Oct. 27).

MVSU’s final two home games are set for the first two weeks of November when they entertain Alcorn State (Nov. 3) and Prairie View A&M (Nov. 10). They will close out the season on the road at Texas Southern (Nov. 17).

“I think it’s a good schedule,” said Morgan. “I think everyone needs to get their money together and get some tickets as soon as possible.”

Morgan, who is entering his third year the helm, said he hopes to see a large home crowd to help cheer on the up-and-coming Delta Devils this season.

“I’d like for us to have a nice crowd at every game,” he said. “That, to me, would be something really big this upcoming season.”

Season tickets will go on sale May 1, 2012. They can be purchased at the MVSU Ticket Office or by calling (662) 254-3313.
