Eddie Robinson Jr. chooses to remember former Penn State head coach Joe Paterno the way he’s always known him.

As a great man and a great football coach.

“I always thought Coach Paterno was a first class guy and a first class coach,” Robinson Jr. told me from his Louisiana home.

Paterno, who passed legendary Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson as the winningest coach in NCAA Division I history with 409 career victories after a 10-7 win over Illinois on Oct. 29, died early Sunday morning due to complications stemming from lung cancer. He was 85.
