The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its football players of the week for games played Saturday, Sept. 24.
Offense – Kaderius Lacey (RB, Alabama A&M)
• Lacey rushed for a career-high 178 yards and 2 TDs, including the game-winner with under a minute to play as Alabama A&M won for the first time in school history at Grambling, 20-14. He also caught 2 passes for 18 yards.
Defense – Kejuan Riley (FS, Alabama State)
• Riley made a career-high 12 tackles (nine solo) and tied a career-high with two interceptions in Saturday’s 21-14 win at Jackson State. Riley made interceptions in the second and third quarters, both in the red zone, with the second leading to a Hornets’ touchdown. Riley has made two interceptions in each of the past two games. His five interceptions this season leads the nation.
Newcomer – Fred Anderson (RB, Prairie View A&M)
• Anderson rushed for 91 yards on 16 carries with 2 touchdowns. Averaged 5.7 yards per carry as the Panthers moved to 2-1 in the SWAC with a 43-34 win over Mississippi Valley State.
Specialist – Byron Williams (KR/RB, Southern)
• Williams posted a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown in the second half of the Jaguars 38-33 loss to Florida A&M in the Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic. Williams earned MVP honors for his performance Saturday and totaled 136 yards in all-purpose yardage.
