PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M women’s basketball team has been invited to participate in the 2011 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Tournament on Thanksgiving weekend at the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas, USVI.

The Lady Panthers will be paired with the University of Michigan, Marquette and Washington State in the Reef Division bracket. Three of four teams in the division participated in postseason play last season as both Michigan and Prairie View A&M earned berths to the 2011 Women’s NCAA Tournament while Marquette participated in the Women’s NIT.

Tournament play begins on Thanksgiving Day as the Lady Panthers will face Michigan on Thursday, Nov. 24. Prairie View returns to action on Friday, Nov. 25 with a matchup versus Marquette followed by its tourney finale against Washington State on Saturday, Nov. 26. All contests will begin at 4:45 p.m. CST.

Exotic travel destinations have been a part of the Lady Panthers’ travel itinerary over the past few seasons. In 2007, the Lady Panthers played several games in the Bahamas followed by a trip to the state of Hawaii in 2008.

“We are very excited to participate in such a great tournament and in a beautiful atmosphere,” said head coach Toyelle Wilson. “We want to compete and win games most importantly. This will be a great experience for the girls and will give excellent exposure and recognition to Prairie View A&M University.”
