In the opening contest of the 2011 SWAC Baseball Tournament held at Fairgrounds Park in Shreveport, Louisiana, the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devil baseball team fell 4-0 to the Grambling State Tigers.
The Devils, the number three seed in the Eastern Division, will now take on the loser of the Alcorn State (#1 in the East) versus Texas Southern (#4 in the West). That game is scheduled for Thursday, May 19 at 9 am.
Shortstop Jerry Hildreth went 2-for-4 in the game while Curtis Ford, Kylie Ming, Derek Wallace and Nick Fangonilo each had a hit for MVSU. Starting pitcher Steven Barnes worked 6 2/3 innings striking out five and walking three.
For Grambling State, Chris Wolfe, Adrian Turner and Brian Knuckles each had a hit and scored a run in the game. GSU pitcher Richard Bautista worked nine innings striking out two and walking three.
