Jackson State trailed 3-2 after six innings of play. The Tigers scored four runs in the seventh to take a 6-3 lead. Gabriel Babineaux and Jose Cruz scored on a Desmond Russell single to left field and Stephen Curtis and Russell scored on a Malcolm Tate single to left field.
Each team put a run on the scoreboard in the second inning. The Tigers went up 2-1 in the third when Kendall Logan scored on a Frank Solis single to center field. Prairie View scored its final two runs of the game and took its only lead in the fifth inning.
Quintavious Drains pitched a complete game to pick up the win. In nine innings of work he allowed three runs on nine hits, while striking out four. Tate led JSU’s offensive efforts as he went 2-4 at the plate with two RBI. Six other Tigers scored a run en route to the win.
The Tigers will return to action Thursday, May 19 to face the winner of the Alabama State vs. Southern game. First pitch is set for 6 pm CST.
