The Alcorn State Braves exploded for 38 hits and 30 runs while sweeping Alabama A&M 21-3 and 9-6 in a doubleheader Saturday in Alcorn State, MS.
The wins give ASU a 15-4 record in the SWAC East division where they are on top. The Bulldogs fell to 4-13 in the East.
The Braves are now 18-20 overall, just two games under .500. They will face the Bulldogs again on Sunday at 1PM in a single game in Willie ‘Rat’ McGowan Stadium going for their sixth win in a row!
ASU scored five runs in the first inning in game one and never were threatened. Kilby Perdomo had a run scoring double, Angel Rosa singled in two as did Edgardo Salas.
Eduardo Gonzalez smacked a three-run homer in the five run Brave fourth and Rosa clubbed a three-run homer himself in the 11 run Brave fifth inning. Sixteen batters went to the plate this inning.
Steve Easter went the distance to increase his record to 6-2 and gave up no earned runs in the victory while scattering five hits. Troy Williams picked up his fifth win against three losses in game two but needed help from reliever Chris Garza. He pitched two shutout Innings allowing no hits and whiffing four. ASU led 9-1 after five in game two as Kenneth Rowan had knocked In three runs, one on a sacrifice fly and two more with a two-run homer, but the Bulldogs pushed across five in the seventh by collecting seven hits off of Williams.
Garza relieved Williams with two out and two on base and struck out Lloyd Bridges to end the inning.
