Tennessee State University Athletic Director, Teresa Phillips, will serve as a panelist at The Black Women in Sport Foundation’s 2011 Next Step Women of Color Mini-Forum hosted at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. The event is supported in part by the NCAA Division of Diversity and Inclusion. The mini-forum will be held on Monday, April 25, 2011.
Phillips’ topic for the group will be “Student Athlete to Athletic Administrator” highlighting her journey as a women’s basketball player at Vanderbilt University, women’s basketball coach at Fisk University and Tennessee State University, to her present position as athletic director at the NCAA Division I, Tennessee State University.
The mini-forum is a professional development and preparation program to increase the proportion of women of color collegiate head coaches and athletic administrators at 4-year NCAA institutions. Their expressed goal is to utilize this forum as an opportunity to spend an interactive and networking evening with the participants as they discuss and explore strategies to recruit, inspire, educate and retain women of color in intercollegiate coaching and athletic administration positions.
