SWAC Baseball Players of the Week – 3/31/2011

SWAC LogoBirmingham, Ala. – Grambling State’s Thomas Brown and Alcorn State’s Steve Easter have earned SWAC Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played between March 22-28.

Player of the Week – Thomas Brown, Grambling State – 3B, 5-10, Fr., Warner Robbins, Ga.

Brown led the Tigers to a sweep of Prairie View in conference play, keeping Grambling a game out of first place in the SWAC Western Division. He batted .367 (4-11) in three league games with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored. He also stole a base. For the week, he batted .333 (5-15) as he collected a single in GSU’s loss to Louisiana Tech. In game two of the PV series, Brown helped the Tigers open a 4-0 lead in the first inning with a 2-run triple.

Pitcher of the Week – Steve Easter, Alcorn State – P, 6-1, 230, Jr., Chicago, Ill.

Easter earned the victory in Alcorn’s shutout in the opening game of the Alabama State series, which the Braves swept. In the first-ever game at Alabama State’s new ASU Baseball Complex, Easter went 8.0 scoreless innings, giving up just 3 hits and striking out 9 Hornet batters.  For the season, Easter is now 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 6 appearances.
